A diferencia del magma solidificado lentamente (caso de las rocas plutónicas como el granito), cuyos cristales suelen distinguirse a simple vista (textura fanerítica), los cristales de la lava solidificada (roca volcánica) no se distinguen a simple vista (textura afanítica o vítrea, caso de la obsidiana). Su temperatura oscila entre los 700° C (1.300° F) en la lava fresca y puede llegar hasta los 1.200° C (2.200° F). ¿Quieres saber que ocurre cuando un material a esas temperaturas se topa con una masa de agua de apenas 15 °C?
